Entering and choosing "Speak with the Priest" will provide game tips while choosing "Pay a Tithe" will provide economic information as buying a round of drinks did in the Alehouse. Port buildings are randomly generated as in Tradewinds 2, however the probability of a port having a Temple is very high and it is rare to see a port without one. In Tradewinds Legends, the Alehouse is now called the Temple. The latter function is not available in Free Trade Mode, as the player cannot accept quests. Additionally, visiting the Alehouse and/or Local Trader may be part of a quest issued in Story Mode. The Local Trader will not appear in any other alehouses, only the one in the port the player starts the game in. In Tradewinds 2, the Alehouse in the player's starting port will contain the Local Trader, who sells powerful items that can affect certain aspects of gameplay, like cannon damage, storm chance, and interest rates. However, the Mercenary feature is not implemented in Tradewinds 2. Speaking with the Bartender will give game tips while buying a round of drinks will provide economic information. Alehouses function very similar to those in Tradewinds Classic. In Tradewinds 2, the locations of Alehouses in ports can is random, given that the buildings in ports are randomly generated, unlike Tradewinds Classic where each port had its own unchangeable layout. The Mercenary will help defend the players fleet for a few months in exchange for a small fee (usually a few thousand gold) Very rarely, Mercenaries can appear in Alehouses, providing a third option in which the player can hire a Mercenary Ship. Choosing this will sometimes (but not all the time) reward the player with information on when prices are high or low for certain goods in certain ports at certain times, or when and where certain items are considered contraband. Selecting "Buy a Round of Drinks" will cost a small amount of gold, between 20 and 100 gold. Selecting "Talk with the Bartender" can sometimes give the player game tips and tricks. When the alehouse is clicked on, the player is given two main options: "Talk with the Bartender" or "Buy a Round of Drinks". However, the execution is poor, and you quickly run out of fun things to do, especially after you learn how everything works. In Tradewinds Classic, the Alehouse is found in all ports, with the exception of Lama Sut. In the end, Tradewinds 2 is not a bad concept at all, even if the idea is stolen from a few other similar titles out there. An interesting idea that required more work There’s no strategy to it, just patience and repetition. You do not really need to pay attention to market trends or anything like that, because all you have to do is buy low and wait for the said good to become more expensive. There are only a handful of goods you can trade, and the price oscillations are laughable. However, the fun is rather short-lived, because the lack of variety strikes hard after the few couple of minutes. Not only that, but you can also upgrade your own guns and purchase powerful ammunition, which helps a lot during the skirmishes. You always have a chance to stumble into a random encounter with a few pirate ships, which is why cannons are a must. Given the fact that the action takes place in the Caribbean during the middle ages, it’s only natural that pirates are a part of the deal as well. Buy better ships and upgrade their equipment They are pretty boring and badly written, but they can distract you from the routine when you need a break. Although the free trading mode allows you to just keep playing until you are satisfied with your wealth, the story mode adds a few quests into the mix, to spice things up. Hence, you get to play the role of a trader and the final goal is to make as much money as you can by trading goods between ports, using your ship for transportation. However, this can still be a hit with the more casual crowds because it can teach you the basics of trading games and provide you with a nice intro to what it takes to succeed in an economy-driven video game. In fact, everything about it has been simplified and dumbed down, with very little variety and not much of a challenge either. Tradewinds 2 is not as complicated as other games in its genre, not by a long shot. Avoid the pirates and make money by selling goods However, there’s always room for improvement, or at least a different take on the subject. Thanks to gems like Patrician and the X series, the genre has evolved steadily over the years, only to reach maturity and provide the fans with exactly what they want. Although the subject is not immensely attractive when you hear about it, trading games always been quite popular.
